The Courtesan Hanao Ogi-ya by Utagawa Kuniyoshi - Vintage Japanese Art Poster Print
The Courtesan Hanao of Ogi-ya is a woodblock print created by the Japanese artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi in the 19th century. The artwork depicts a beautiful courtesan named Hanao, who was a popular performer at the Ogi-ya brothel in the pleasure district of Edo (now Tokyo).
Hanao is shown standing in a graceful pose, wearing an elegant kimono decorated with colourful flowers and butterflies. Her hair is elaborately styled with ornaments and a delicate hairpin. The background of the print is filled with vibrant red colour, creating a striking contrast against the figure of the courtesan.
Kuniyoshi was known for his depictions of famous warriors and beautiful women, and this artwork exemplifies his skill in portraying the latter. The Courtesan Hanao of Ogi-ya is a stunning example of Japanese woodblock printing and provides a glimpse into the cultural world of Japan's pleasure districts during the Edo period.
